FAQ

Questions you might have.

Is My Traveler Map free?

My Traveler Map is free to download.

The free version allows you to save up to 30 places in your map. You can also accept invitations to join maps shared by Explorer users. Explorer is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited places and additional features.

See the Pricing page for full details.

Do I need to create an account?

No. My Traveler Map does not require you to create an account.

The app works directly on your device. If iCloud is enabled in your device settings, your data can sync across your Apple devices using your existing Apple ID.

We do not manage user accounts or store personal profiles.

What does the Explorer upgrade include?

Explorer unlocks unlimited saved places, multiple maps, collaborative maps, Quick Filters, and place sharing.

See the Pricing page for a full comparison.

How does place sharing work?

Place sharing uses universal links — smart web links that open content in the best way available.

When someone taps a shared place link:

– My Traveler Map opens if installed
– An App Clip opens on compatible devices
– A webpage opens otherwise, allowing them to view the place in Apple Maps

Keep in mind that universal links behave like regular web links, so third parties that handle internet traffic may be able to see the link you're sharing.

Place sharing requires the Explorer upgrade.

How does map sharing work?

With Explorer, you can create multiple maps and share them with friends or family, turning them into collaborative spaces where everyone can contribute.

Free users can accept invitations to join maps shared by Explorer users, but cannot create new maps beyond their default one or share maps themselves.

Shared maps are fully collaborative — any participant can add, modify, or delete places, Board notes, and any other content in the map.

Invitations must be explicitly accepted by tapping or clicking on them. No map is shared without your active confirmation.

We strongly recommend sharing maps only with people you know and trust personally. Never accept invitations from unknown parties.

What are universal links?

Universal links are smart web links that open content in the best way available.

When someone taps a shared place:

– My Traveler Map opens if installed
– An App Clip opens on compatible devices
– A webpage opens otherwise, allowing them to open the place in Apple Maps

This allows shared places to work smoothly across different devices.

Keep in mind that universal links behave like regular web links, so third parties that handle internet traffic may be able to see the link you’re sharing.

What happens when a shared map is stopped or I leave one?

When sharing ends — whether the owner stops sharing, removes a participant, or a participant leaves on their own — the map and all its contents are removed from the affected party's devices as soon as the sync can complete.

The map owner can stop sharing or remove participants at any time without prior notice. Any participant can leave a shared map at any time from within the app.

Why are some city or country names shown in a different language?

Country names always match your current device language.

City names, addresses, and place names may be inconsistent — some databases include translations for different languages, others only have the original name. This behavior comes from the underlying geographic data and is outside our control.

If you change your device language, all newly saved places will use the new language. Previously saved places keep the language they were saved in, so you may see a mix of languages for cities, addresses, or place names depending on when they were added.

Why does the same city appear more than once?

The same city can sometimes appear with slight name variations — for example, "Bronx", "Bronx NY", or "Bronx, NY". This happens because different places saved in that city may come from geographic data sources that use slightly different formatting for the same location.

We can't automatically merge these variations because some similar names are legitimately different places — for example, "Union" and "Union City" in New Jersey.

Does the app show ads?

My Traveler Map does not show ads, and we have no plans to introduce advertising on our part.

If we ever add optional recommendations in the future, they will require an explicit opt-in with a setting that is off by default. We will never push or trick you into enabling it, and any such content will never be based on your personal data or usage profile.

Map data, search, and imagery are provided by Apple Maps and MapKit. Apple operates these services under their own terms, which may evolve independently of this app. We do not control what Apple may introduce within their services.

What is Natural Earth?

Natural Earth is a free, open geographic database used widely in mapping applications. We integrated it into My Traveler Map to provide region and state information for your saved places.

Apple Maps (MapKit) does not currently provide region or state data for saved places, so we use Natural Earth to fill that gap and give you a more organized view of your places.

This database is embedded in the app and does not make any external calls.

Why is the region or state missing for some of my places?

Region and state detection is provided by the Natural Earth database, which has some known limitations.

Places located in or near water bodies — such as islands, harbors, or coastlines — may not have a detected region or state. This is a known limitation of geographic boundary data and is expected to improve as the database evolves.

Why did the app restart and show a warning about street-level previews?

Street-level previews (Look Around) are interactive and memory-intensive. In rare cases, loading a preview can consume enough memory that the system is about to close the app to protect device stability.

When this happens, the app detects the warning, saves a flag, and the system closes the app. On your next launch, you'll see a notice explaining what happened, with the option to continue with previews disabled or re-enable them.

If you need to view the same place or run the same search again, we suggest keeping previews disabled for that session. You can change this at any time in Settings, regardless of whether you've seen the warning before.

This issue is related to the imagery data for specific locations and is not a bug in the app. We expect it to be resolved in a future update by the mapping provider.

Why is street-level preview not available for some places?

Street-level previews (Look Around) are provided by Apple Maps and are only available where Apple has collected imagery for a location.

Coverage varies by country, city, and specific area. This is entirely outside our control — if Look Around is not available for a place, it means Apple does not have imagery for that location yet.

How can I support the app?

The best way to support My Traveler Map is to use it, share it, and tell others about it.

Advanced features are available via in-app purchases, and larger sponsorships or partnerships help fund new features and improvements for everyone.

Rating the app and sharing your feedback is another great way to support it.

Which devices are supported?

My Traveler Map works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers.

The iPad offers a larger, more comfortable experience for planning and organizing places, while the iPhone works best when you’re on the trip and moving around.

What operating system version is required?

My Traveler Map requires iOS 26.0, iPadOS 26.0, or macOS 26.0 (Apple Silicon) or later.

Is My Traveler Map available on Android?

Currently, My Traveler Map is available only on Apple devices.

At this time, there are no plans to add an Android version.

We strongly rely on Apple platforms because of their privacy-focused design, system integration, and built-in technologies such as iCloud.

This allows us to build the app with a high level of privacy, security, and performance without managing external servers or user accounts.

How does backup and iCloud sync work?

My Traveler Map uses your device’s standard backup and iCloud settings.

If iCloud sync is enabled for the app in your device settings, your saved places can sync across your Apple devices.

Backups depend on your device’s regular backup configuration (such as iCloud Backup or local computer backups).

We do not run separate cloud accounts or external data servers.

How can I delete my data?

All your data is stored locally on your device and, if enabled, in your personal iCloud account.

We do not run external servers or store copies of your saved places.

To permanently delete your data:

– Delete the app from all of your devices
– Go to your device Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage
– Locate My Traveler Map and remove its stored data

Once removed from your devices and iCloud, the data is permanently deleted. We do not retain copies and have no access to your saved places.

Is the app available in other languages?

Yes. The app is currently available in English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese Simplified, and Chinese Traditional.

Translations are an ongoing effort. If you notice something that doesn't read naturally in your language, please let us know through the contact form — your feedback helps us improve.

When will new features be available?

New features are guided by user feedback and real-world usage.

Development priorities are shaped by stability and user experience. Bug fixes always take priority, so please report any issues you encounter through the contact form.

See the future improvements section for what we're currently thinking about.

Will the app use AI?

We plan to experiment with optional AI-assisted features that could help with search, discovery, or adding contextual information.

Privacy always comes first. If this feature relies on external services that store or process data (for example, AI providers that retain conversations), we will disclose this.

Who is behind My Traveler Map?

My Traveler Map is built and maintained by Life View Innovations LLC.

We’re currently a one-person studio. The company is run by its founder, who designs, builds, and supports the app.
